Origin
The Livistona chinensis, also known as the Chinese fan palm, originally hails from Southeast Asia. Its habitat ranges from Taiwan and the southern Japanese islands to the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea. The plant has become common since the 18th century in many subtropical and tropical parts of the world due to its aesthetic value.

Characteristics
The Livistona chinensis is a species of palm tree which can range in height from six to fifteen metres under ideal conditions. The trunk of the plant is slender and grey with rings marking the growth marks. The leaves are characteristically fan-like, large, shiny, and dark green in colour. The flowers usually come in clusters, are small and yellow in colour, and are followed by small round fruits which are first green, then black upon ripening.

Care
The Livistona chinensis is relatively easy to maintain if placed in a location with plenty of light, but without direct sunlight. It requires well-draining soil and a moderate need for water. It is best to let the soil dry out somewhat between watering. The plant thrives well at normal room temperatures but cannot tolerate extreme cold. Regular misting can help maintain humidity levels and prevent dry leaf tips.
