DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Ravenala madagascariensis, often called the 'traveller's tree', is native to Madagascar. It is an indigenous species there and has over time been exported to other tropical climates worldwide. However, one should not be misled by the name 'traveller's tree', as the plant is not a real palm.

Characteristics
The Ravenala madagascariensis is characterised by its large, paddle-like leaves that grow in a unique fan shape. This makes the plant look like a gigantic fan-shaped figure when viewed from above. The green of the leaves is deep and rich, giving the plant a tropical appearance. This plant can reach a substantial size, up to 7 metres in height and 3 metres wide.

Care
Taking care of the traveller's tree requires a certain dedication. Important for the growth of this plant is a place with adequate light. While the plant can tolerate some hours of direct sunlight, it requires indirect, filtered light for most of its growing period. In terms of irrigation, the Ravenala madagascariensis needs regular watering, but not excessively. Strict attention to the plant's maintenance will ensure it grows and blooms well. It is also important to regularly fertilise the plant to replenish the necessary nutrients.
