Origin
The Ficus pumila 'White Sunny' is a graceful climbing plant that originally comes from East Asia. This plant species belongs to the Moraceae family, also known as the mulberry family. The plant is often used as a ground cover in its country of origin, but has also found its way to gardens and interiors around the world.
Characteristics
Ficus pumila 'White Sunny', also known as the Climbing Fig, is known for its heart-shaped leaves with varying colours from green to white. This plant can grow up to 10 metres high and has a strongly branching growth habit. The 'White Sunny' variant is characterised by striking light-green leaves with a cream-white border and midrib that are highly decorative.
Care
Despite being a climbing plant, the Ficus pumila 'White Sunny' also grows well in hanging situations. It likes a bright location, but cannot tolerate direct sunlight. Additionally, the plant prefers constantly moist, but well-drained soil. In the growing period of spring and summer, the plant needs to be watered regularly and fertilisation with a balanced, water-based fertiliser is recommended. In the resting phase, autumn and winter, watering can be reduced. When pruning the plant, it is advised to be careful, as the milky sap that comes from the cut surfaces can cause skin irritation.
