Origin
The Echinocactus grusonii 'Albispina', also known as the Golden Barrel Cactus, traces its origin back to Mexico. This type of cactus primarily grows in the Mexican desert regions. Over the decades, the plant has also spread to other parts of the world, where it is cultivated indoors as a houseplant or outdoors in dry, rocky landscapes.

Characteristics
The Echinocactus grusonii 'Albispina' is a spherical cactus known for its exceptionally slow growth rate. It has a noteworthy pale yellow discolouration, compared to the more commonly occurring gold variety. Typical for this species are the numerous spines that cover the entire plant. In the summer, the cactus produces small, light yellow flowers that appear around the crown of the plant.

Care
The Echinocactus grusonii 'Albispina' requires little maintenance and is therefore suitable for people without green fingers. The plant prefers full sunlight and well-draining soil to prevent water accumulation and root rot. Although this type of cactus is drought tolerant, it requires periodic watering, particularly in the growth period, and less during the winter months. Protection from extreme cold is necessary as the Echinocactus grusonii 'Albispina' is not frost-hardy.
