Origin
The Sansevieria zeylanica Fan, otherwise known as the Snake Plant, has its origin in West Africa, from Nigeria to Congo. This plant species belongs to the Asparagaceae family and grows in the wild in extensive savannahs and rainforests.
Characteristics
The Sansevieria zeylanica Fan distinguishes itself with its unique fan-shaped growth. The plant is characterised by deep green, glossy leaves, striped with lighter green shades. Mature leaves can reach up to 70 centimetres long and are quite hard and thick. Flowers are rare with this species, but when they do appear, they are usually greenish-white.
Care
The Sansevieria zeylanica Fan is quite an easy houseplant to care for. The plant likes consistency in watering and soil that drains well. It performs well in light to semi-shade locations but can also survive under fluorescent light. Although the plant is well adapted to drier conditions, it thrives in room temperatures around 21 to 29 degrees Celsius. Overall, it is a strong plant that can withstand a range of growing conditions.
