Origin
The Phalaenopsis Table Orchid mix, also known as the butterfly orchid, originates from the tropical areas of Asia, Australia and the Pacific Ocean. This orchid naturally grew in the treetops of the rainforest. The orchid belongs to the family of Orchidaceae, one of the largest plant families in the world. The word Phalaenopsis is of Greek origin and means 'phalaina', moth and 'opsis', resemblance, referring to the shape of the flowers.

Characteristics
The Phalaenopsis Table Orchid mix is known for its beautiful and varied flowers. It varies in size, shape and colour, resulting in a mix of attractive flowers ranging from white, pink to purple. The orchid has fleshy, green leaves that grow in a rosette with long flower stems. The flowers themselves have a distinct shape, with a central part that resembles the body of an insect. The flowering of this orchid can last several weeks to several months.

Care
The Phalaenopsis Table Orchid mix requires specific care to flourish. It prefers a light spot, but not direct sunlight. A constant temperature between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius promotes growth. In the winter months, a lower temperature can encourage the plant to develop flower buds. It is advisable to lightly spray the orchid with water every week, preferably softened water. It is crucial that the soil can dry out between watering to prevent root rot. For optimal care, fertilise the plant every two weeks with a fertiliser specially developed for orchids.
