Origin
The Phalaenopsis Polka Dots is a type of orchid that originally comes from Southeast Asia. It is mainly found in the regions of the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia. The name Phalaenopsis, also known as the moth orchid, is derived from the Greek Phalaina, meaning moth, and Opis, meaning looks.
Characteristics
The Phalaenopsis Polka Dots is known for its unique appearance and is easily recognizable by the spotted flower petals from which its name is derived. Each of the flower petals has a base colour of white with pink to purple spots. The plant normally grows in an epiphytic growth manner, meaning they grow on the surface of other plants and get their nutrients from the air and rain.
Care
Caring for the Phalaenopsis Polka Dots requires attention to some specific conditions. It needs a lot of light, but should not be exposed to direct sunlight to avoid leaf burn. Watering should be moderate to prevent the roots from drowning and rotting. The ideal temperature is between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius, and the plant needs high humidity to thrive. Regular fertilisation is necessary for the growth and flowering of the Polka Dots.
