Origin
The Guzmania Crown is a plant species from the Bromeliaceae family and originates from the warm, tropical rainforests of South and Central America. Here, the plant mainly grows on trees, in nutrient-poor environments. The plant is part of the Guzmania genus, which is named after the Spanish naturalist Anastasio Guzman, who discovered the plant in the 18th century.

Characteristics
The Guzmania Crown is known for its striking display of flowers, usually in vibrant shades of red. These flowers are in fact bracts that have changed in order to attract insects. The actual blossoms are nestled amidst these red-coloured bracts and they are often small and inconspicuous. The plant has a green rosette of leaves that grows in a circle; water collects in these rosettes, allowing the plant to self-sustain.

Care
The Guzmania Crown requires specific care in order to grow and bloom. The plant thrives in indirect, bright light and high levels of humidity; in doing so it mimics the rainforest climate. The Guzmania Crown, like most bromeliads, does not appreciate excess water in the pot; it is advisable to keep the watering limited and focus on misting the plant. Regularly misting the plant underlines both its tropical origin and its epiphytic lifestyle; the plant draws most of its water from the air, rather than through its roots.
