Origin
The Didymochlaena truncatula, otherwise known as the mahogany fern, has its origin in the tropical rainforests of East Africa, Asia and Australia. It thrives best in these warm, humid environments. The plant primarily grows in the shadow of larger trees, where the humidity and temperature are perfectly balanced.
Characteristics
The distinctive characteristics of the Didymochlaena truncatula are the brownish stems with finely divided deep green leaves. The plant reaches between 60 and 120 cm in height when fully grown. The glossy, leathery leaves are curled downwards and can reach a length of 30 to 60 cm. As a type of fern, the plant reproduces through spores rather than seeds.
Care
In terms of care, the Didymochlaena truncatula is an easy-to-maintain plant provided it is given the right conditions. The plant likes a warm environment with high humidity and cannot withstand cold and frost. The soil should always be slightly moist, but without puddles of water. Although it prefers the shade, it can also grow in semi-shade.
