Origin
The Fittonia Mosaic Pink Forest Flame, also known as the nerve plant, has its origin in the tropical rainforests of South America. In particular, it is prevalent in countries such as Peru and Colombia, where the plant grows in the shady undergrowth of the forest. Because of this habitat, the Fittonia has adapted to a humid, warm climate and does not cope well with direct sunlight and drought.
Characteristics
The Fittonia Mosaic Pink Forest Flame is distinguished by its striking, mosaic-like leaf pattern. The leaf is dark green with pink veins, which has led to its nickname 'nerve plant'. The plant has a compact growth habit and does not grow much larger than 30 cm. It is a ground-covering plant and develops best in a horizontal direction, which in nature helps to optimally use the light that falls through the tree canopy.
Care
The Fittonia Mosaic Pink Forest Flame requires high humidity, similar to its original rainforest environment, and is preferably placed in a spot where the temperature is between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. Direct sunlight should be avoided, as this can damage the leaves. In terms of water needs, the plant prefers a constantly moist soil, but not wet. Overwatering can drown the plant, underwatering causes the leaves to wilt. Pruning the plant can help promote growth.
