Origin
The Vriesea Cupcake, originated from Central and South America. The climate in these regions is subtropical, which is where the Vriesea thrives best. The plant is named after the Dutch botanist Willem Hendrik de Vriese.
Characteristics
The Vriesea Cupcake is a member of the Bromeliad family and is known for its striking, brightly coloured leaves that grow in a rosette shape. The distinctive aspect of this plant are the long, bright, sword-like flower stems that shoot out from the centre of the rosette. These flower stems can be in various colours, including red, orange and yellow.
Care
For optimal growth and flowering, the Vriesea Cupcake needs bright, indirect light. Excessive direct sun can burn the leaves. The plant needs high humidity, and it is recommended to spray the plant regularly with lukewarm water. In the growing season, which runs from spring to autumn, the plant should be moistened with a weak liquid fertiliser. It is important not to give the plant too much water, as this can cause the roots to rot.
