Origin
The Phalaenopsis Shorty, also known as the 'Dwarf Phalaenopsis', originates from the tropical regions of Southeast Asia, Australia and the Philippines. This plant naturally grows in humid, warm environments, often in the rainforest. Over the years, different cultivars and hybrids of the original species have emerged, which are available worldwide in garden centres and online stores.

Characteristics
The Phalaenopsis Shorty is a dwarf orchid, with a maximum height of about 25 centimeters. This orchid is known for its spectacular flowers, which vary in colour from white to deep red, with beautiful patterns. This plant is an epiphyte, which means it grows on other plants in nature, without taking nutrients from the host. Although the plant is small, it is very robust and has glossy, thick leaves and a compact growth form.

Care
The Phalaenopsis Shorty has similar care needs to other Phalaenopsis species. A bright spot without direct sunlight and a constantly warm temperature are ideal for this plant. The plant needs high humidity and the soil should always remain moist, but not saturated. Overwatering can lead to root rot, which is often a death sentence for these plants. The plant also needs a specific orchid mix to grow in, as traditional potting soil does not provide sufficient drainage and air circulation.
