This plant species is part of the Ericaceae family and was first identified in the 18th century. Since then, it has been exported worldwide and planted in various regions due to its attractive flowers.
Characteristics
The Rhododendron indicum is an evergreen shrub that can grow up to a maximum of 60 centimetres at full bloom. It is known for its late spring or early summer bloom, during which it produces abundant and vibrant flowers. This plant has dark green leaves and the flowers vary in colour from pink, white, red to purple. The individual flowers have an impressive size of two to three centimetres in diameter.
Care
For optimal growth and blooming of the Rhododendron indicum, a place in partial shade or full shade is recommended. This plant prefers a light, well-draining, acidic soil. Regarding water, the Rhododendron indicum likes evenly moist soil, but it is important to avoid waterlogging. It is advisable to fertilise the plant regularly, mainly in the period leading up to the bloom to stimulate flower production.
