Taxus baccata 'Fastigiata'
F00003841
Origin
The Pinus mugo Carstens Wintergold is a coniferous tree that occurs mainly in high-altitude, rocky areas throughout Europe. This Wintergold variant was specifically cultivated in Germany by the renowned Carstens Nursery.
Characteristics
The Pinus mugo Carstens Wintergold is a slow-growing dwarf form that can reach a height of 60-100cm, making it an ideal plant for the smaller garden. This conifer undergoes a colour change during the winter months from green to golden yellow, which explains the 'Wintergold' name. The needles remain green throughout the year, and the foliage is thick and bushy, giving the plant a solid appearance.
Care
The Pinus mugo Carstens Wintergold has a strong preference for full sun, but it can also grow in partial shade. The soil has to be well-drained to prevent root rot. This plant is very hardy in the winter, but needs extra water during dry periods. Pruning is generally not necessary, but the removal of dead or damaged branches can improve both the growth and the appearance of the plant.
