Origin
The Ophiopogon japonicus mix, also known as the Fountain Plant, originates from East Asia. This evergreen plant is mainly found in Japan, where it is also used in traditional medicine. The plant primarily grows in forests, grasslands and on steep mountain sides.
Characteristics
The Ophiopogon japonicus mix is a low-growing perennial plant, that can grow from 15 to 30 centimetres high. The plant has long, thin leaves which are dark green in colour. These leaves remain green all year round. Moreover, the Ophiopogon japonicus mix produces small, flower-like fruits that are purple or black.
Care
The Ophiopogon japonicus mix is an easy plant to look after. It prefers a location in full sun or partial shade. The plant needs well-drained soil. Although the plant has good cold tolerance, it must be protected in harsh frost. It is also advisable to fertilise the plant in spring, and trim away old foliage.
