Origin
The Alocasia 'Dragon Scale', also known as the Alocasia Baginda, originates from Southeast Asia. More specifically, this remarkable houseplant comes from the tropical rainforests of Borneo, an island shared by Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. Here the plant grows in the damp and shady level of the forest.
Characteristics
The large heart-shaped leaves with a unique texture are characteristic of the Alocasia 'Dragon Scale'. Each leaf has its own patterns, consisting of grey-green scales that resemble the skin of a dragon, hence the name 'Dragon Scale'. Moreover, the leaves have a beautiful metallic sheen. The plant is a relatively small plant species, with a total maximum height that rarely exceeds half a meter.
Care
In caring for the Alocasia 'Dragon Scale', it is important to take its natural habitat into account. A slightly moist soil simulation is ideal, which is why it's important to water regularly without overwatering the plant. Place the plant in a light location, but avoid direct sunlight as this can burn the leaves. This is a tropical plant species that likes high humidity, so an environment with low humidity or dry air can be harmful to the plant.
