Origin
The Aeonium arboreum 'Velours' is a plant species originally from the Canary Islands, an archipelago located in the Atlantic Ocean. The species belongs to the family of succulents, also known as Crassulaceae. This family consists of about 60 different Aeonium species, loved for their graceful and diverse appearance.

Characteristics
The Aeonium arboreum 'Velours' is an impressive succulent with a trunk supporting lush rosettes that consist of velvety leaves. The leaves possess a deep, burgundy red colour which becomes more intense with more sunlight. The plant can grow to a height of 1 to 2 meters and produces bright, yellow flowers in the spring. This plant species is sensitive to frost, making it primarily indoor in colder climates.

Care
The Aeonium arboreum 'Velours' requires well-draining soil and a warm, sunny location for optimal growth. As it is a succulent, it is preferred to let the plant dry out before watering it again. Overwatering can lead to root rot and other diseases. In the winter, the plant goes into a dormancy period requiring less water. The plant is best kept indoors when temperatures drop below 10°C, as it is not frost-resistant.
