Origin
The Mandevilla (Dipladenia) 2 colours red/white has its origin in South America, particularly in Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. From there, the plant has spread all over the world, first in botanical gardens of the 19th century and later in private gardens. Although it is a tropical plant, the Mandevilla has adapted well to less warm climates.
Characteristics
The Mandevilla is a climbing plant with glossy green leaves and funnel-shaped flowers. The 2 colour variant, red/white, features alternating red and white blooms. The red part of the flower is usually the most prominent, with the white serving as a cheerful contrast. The plant has a long flowering season that extends from late spring until the first frost.
Care
The Mandevilla requires relatively little care. Sufficient sunlight is important, as is regular watering, especially during dry periods. The plant can survive some frost, but overwintering in a frost-free space is recommended for climates where winters are cold. The Mandevilla cannot tolerate standing water, so ensure good drainage. The plants do well in light, nutrient-rich, and well-draining soil.
