Lavandula angustifolia 'Hidcote'
F00003051
Origin
The Lavandula angustifolia Hidcote originates from the Mediterranean regions, especially South France. Other well-known names for this plant are Hidcote Lavender or English lavender. It is a cultivar of Lavandula angustifolia, cultivated by Major Lawrence Johnston in his garden at Hidcote Manor, England.
Characteristics
The Lavandula angustifolia Hidcote is characterized by its compact and bushy growth, usually no more than 50 centimeters in height. The leaves are long and narrow, with a grey-green colour. The flowers are dark purple and form clusters above the leaves. This plant is highly fragrant and is often used for perfumes and oils.
Care
The Lavandula angustifolia Hidcote requires full sunlight to grow well and it is best to plant this plant in well-draining soil. Although this plant is drought-tolerant, it benefits from regular watering, especially during dry periods. The flowers are harvested in late summer or early autumn, prior to full decay. The plant should be pruned back annually to the bottom third, to encourage bushy growth.
