F00001611
Origin
The Agapanthus 'Charlotte', also known as the African lily, is originally from South Africa. In the wild, the plant grows on sunny, rocky slopes and in grasslands. The name Agapanthus comes from Greek and means 'flower of love', referring to the beautiful flowers the plant produces.
Characteristics
The Agapanthus 'Charlotte' is a perennial plant known for its lush, green leaves and beautiful, spherical flower beds that have a rich blue or purple colour. This plant typically reaches a height of 60 to 90 centimetres and blooms in the summer, usually from July to August. It is a vigorous grower that is particularly attractive to butterflies and bees due to its nectar-rich flowers.
Care
The Agapanthus 'Charlotte' prefers a sunny, open location with well-draining soil. Although the plant is somewhat drought resistant, it requires additional water during hot summers and dry periods. It is recommended to fertilise the plant in the spring to promote abundant flowering. To protect the plant from frost during the winter, it is advisable to apply a protective layer of mulch around the base of the plant.
