Origin
The Biophytum sensitivum is an intriguing species of plant that originates from tropical and subtropical regions all over the world. This species, also known as the 'Little Tree Plant', is part of the Oxalidaceae family and primarily grows in humid forests and swamps.
Characteristics
The Biophytum sensitivum is distinguished by its unique characteristics and appearance. The plant is small, usually no more than 15 centimetres tall, and has delicate, fern-like leaves that fold in upon touch. This has led to the plant often being called the 'sensitive plant'. Its flowers are bright yellow and most often bloom in the late spring to early summer.
Care
Caring for the Biophytum sensitivum requires some attention. The plant prefers moist, but well-drained soil and if possible, high humidity. The plant also needs bright, indirect light and must be protected from full sun. During the winter months, it's advisable to reduce watering and keep the plant slightly cooler.
