Agave americana 'Variegata'
5AGAMKK35
Origin
The Agave 'Blue Glow' is a hybrid species that originally comes from Mexico, but is now popular worldwide as an ornamental plant. This evergreen succulent plant was developed by horticulturists and cannot be found in the wild.
Characteristics
The Agave 'Blue Glow' is an elegant plant, identifiable by its slender, blue-green leaves with red edges. The leaves form a rosette and are finished with a sharp, dark-brown thorn at the end. The plant grows slowly and can eventually reach a height and width of up to 60 centimetres. In late spring or early summer, the plant can produce a tall flower stem with yellow-green flowers, although this is rare in cultivated specimens.
Care
The Agave 'Blue Glow' has few environmental requirements and is very drought resistant, making it an ideal choice for drought-tolerant gardens. The plant prefers full sun and well-drained soil, but can also thrive in partial shade. It is advisable to let the soil dry between watering to avoid root rot. Despite its resistance to cold, it is better to bring the plant indoors or cover it during periods of frost, as it cannot withstand extremely low temperatures.
