Origin
The Espostoa lanata, also known as the Peruvian Old Man Cactus, originates from the Andes Mountains of Peru and Ecuador. This area is known for its high altitudes and dry climate, which this cactus thrives in. The plant is named after Nicolas E. Esposto, a prominent botanist from the late 19th and early 20th century.

Characteristics
The most distinctive characteristics of the Espostoa lanata are the white, woolly hairs that cover the entire cactus. The cactus itself is cylindrical, with ribs that are equipped with thorns. The thorns are hidden in the coat but are sharp and up to 2 cm long. The cactus can grow up to 8 meters in nature, although the plant usually stays much smaller at home.

Care
The care of the Espostoa lanata corresponds with many other desert cactuses. This species requires lots of bright light and sandy or gravel-like soil with good drainage. They need little water and can suffer damage if kept too wet. If the cactus is regularly exposed to temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius in the winter, it could hinder its growth or even kill the plant.
