Aeschynanthus 'Japhrolepis'
Hanger
4AEJAHA10
Origin
The Senecio Blue Pickle, also known as the Blue Chalksticks, originates from South Africa. This plant species belongs to the Asteraceae or Composite family, making it part of the largest family of flowering plants in the world.
Characteristics
This hardy plant is known for its unique, chalky, blue-grey leaves that resemble small sausages or pickles, hence the name Blue Pickle. It's a succulent, meaning it stores water in its thick leaves and stems, enabling it to withstand high temperatures and drought. The plant grows fast and can reach up to 30 centimetres in height.
Care
The Senecio Blue Pickle requires well-drained soil and full sun to maintain its unique colour. Although it is drought-tolerant, it needs regular watering, but it is important to prevent the plant from standing in water to avoid root rot. Because of its origin, this plant cannot cope well with cold temperatures and should be protected during the winter months.
