Stem
5ACRYRS53
Origin
The Acer pal. 'Pendulum Julian' is a beloved woody plant species originating from East Asia, particularly Japan, Korea and parts of China. The name 'Acer' comes from the Latin word 'acer', meaning 'sharp', which refers to the pointed shape of the leaves. This plant has been introduced in many places around the world over the years due to its graceful appearance and adaptability to various climates.
Characteristics
The Acer pal. 'Pendulum Julian', also known as the Japanese maple, is a striking plant due to its beautiful autumnal colouration. The plant has characteristic hand-like leaves that are typically bright green in spring and summer, but transform into striking shades of yellow, orange and red in autumn. The 'Pendulum Julian' typically grows to an average height of 4 to 6 metres.
Care
For optimal growth, the Acer pal. 'Pendulum Julian' requires a spot with partial shade and well-draining soil. Although the plant is drought tolerant once mature, it is important to water regularly during periods of drought, especially when the plant is still young. The plant appreciates an annual application of a slow-release fertiliser in early spring to promote healthy growth. Although the Japanese maple can withstand some pruning, it is best to keep this to a minimum and only remove dead or diseased branches.
