DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Eucalyptus gunnii, also known as the cider gum, is a tree native to Tasmania. It is the most frost-resistant type of eucalyptus and is often planted in other, cooler parts of the world. The first European encounter with this plant was during the journey of French explorer Jacques Labillardière in 1792.

Characteristics
Eucalyptus gunnii is characterised by its blue-green leaves that turn silver in the sun. Cream-coloured flowers appear in the early summer, adding to its attractive appearance. The tree has a rapid growth rate and can reach a height of 25 meters if not restricted. The bark of the Eucalyptus gunnii is smooth and peels off in long strips, creating a striking pattern.

Care
The Eucalyptus gunnii thrives best in full sun and well-drained soil. The plant is relatively drought-tolerant once established, but regular watering during dry periods is recommended. Pruning is best done in late spring or early summer to avoid bleeding sap and to keep the plant healthy and manageable. Finally, the tree has a low nutritional need and requires little additional fertilisation.
