Origin
The Olea europaea, also known as the European Olive Tree, has its origins in the eastern Mediterranean region. It has been grown and cherished for thousands of years by various civilizations including the Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans. The plant has subsequently extended its distribution to other parts of the world, including Europe, Africa, Australia and America.

Characteristics
The Olea europaea is an evergreen tree that can reach 10 to 20 meters in height and is known for its twisted and gnarly trunk. The leaves are narrow and lance-shaped, with a dark green upper side and a silvery underside. The tree produces small white flowers followed by olives, which are green when ripe and black when fully ripe.

Care
The Olea europaea requires a sunny and warm location and should be protected against cold temperatures. By nature, it is very drought-resistant but for optimal growth and olive production, regular watering and well-draining soil are crucial. Pruning can be done in late spring to maintain the form of the tree and stimulate fruit production.
