Origin
The Ceropegia woodii, also known as the 'string of hearts', originates from South Africa. It is a member of the succulent family, known for their resistance to drought. This species predominantly grows in dry, rocky areas and woods where the occasional rainfall ensures their survival.

Characteristics
The unique characteristic of the Ceropegia woodii is that it produces long shoots with bi-coloured heart-shaped leaves. The leaves are green on top and purple underneath, making it an attractive houseplant. The plant also produces small, tube-shaped flowers that are predominantly purple in colour. The Ceropegia woodii can grow several metres long.

Care
Despite the plant being hardy and able to survive harsh conditions, the Ceropegia woodii requires specific care to thrive. The plant fares best in a warm environment with plenty of indirect light and should be watered when the top layer of the soil feels dry. The plant requires little feed, on average only once a month during the growing season. In the winter, the plant goes through a dormant period and watering should be reduced.
