Origin
The Mammillaria elongata, also known as the 'Gold Bar Cactus', is a type of cactus that originally comes from the central part of Mexico. Here, the plant grows in the wild, predominantly in dry and rocky areas. It grows at heights ranging from 1600 to 2400 metres above sea level.

Characteristics
Characteristic of the Mammillaria elongata are its elongated, cylindrical stems that grow in clusters. The stems are covered with small spines, giving the plant a spiky appearance. The cactus has small yellow flowers that form in the spring and early summer. A mature plant can reach a height of 15 to 20 centimetres.

Care
In terms of care for the Mammillaria elongata, the plant needs to be placed in a sunny location, but with some shade during the hottest hours of the day. The cactus needs well-drained soil and should only be watered when the soil is completely dry, as overwatering can lead to root rot. In the winter, the cactus needs a rest period where the temperature must not drop below 10°C and water supply reduced.
