Origin
Pachycereus pringlei, also known as the Cardon cactus, has its origin in the desert areas of Baja California, Mexico. This cactus is named after Cyrus Pringle, a 19th-century botanist from the United States who discovered the plant. The Pachycereus pringlei belongs to the Cactaceae family.
Characteristics
Pachycereus pringlei is known as the largest cactus species in the world, with a potential growth height of up to 19.2 metres. The plant has a columnar structure that can culminate in multiple arms. The plant is grey-green in colour and the surface is covered with prickly, dark grey to black thorns that are grouped in strands of 8-12.
Care
The Pachycereus pringlei is a hardy plant that requires little maintenance. It prefers bright, direct sunlight and thrives optimally at temperatures between 10 and 40 degrees Celsius. The soil around the cactus must be well-drained to prevent root rot. In the summer, the plant needs more water than in the winter months; it is important to avoid overwatering.
