Origin
The Trichocereus pachanoi 'Cristata', also known as the San Pedro cactus, has its origin in the Andes region of South America. The plant is originally found in high-altitude areas of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, and Peru. These regions are characterised by their dry, rocky environment where the Trichocereus pachanoi 'Cristata' is able to survive.
Characteristics
The Trichocereus pachanoi 'Cristata' is a slow-growing cactus with a unique growth form. The plant primarily grows in width and has a crumpled surface that is often compared to the brain because of its many grooves and ridges. The cactus has a grass green colour and rarely bears flowers during the growing season. The spikes of the Trichocereus pachanoi 'Cristata' are minimal and not as sharp as in other cacti.
Care
The care of the Trichocereus pachanoi 'Cristata' is relatively simple given the cactus's adaptability to dry conditions. It is important to ensure well-drained soil and to water the cactus only when the soil is completely dry. Like other cacti, the Trichocereus pachanoi 'Cristata' enjoys plenty of sunlight, but it cannot tolerate frost. It is recommended to bring the cactus indoors when temperatures drop below 10 degrees Celsius to prevent frost damage.
