Echeveria 'Black Prince'
F00001003
Origin
The Echeveria subsessilis is a species from the Crassulaceae family originally hailing from Mexico. The plant is named after the 18th-century Mexican artist and botanical illustrator Atanasio Echeverría y Godoy. The species, subsessilis, refers to the plant's sessile leaves.
Characteristics
The Echeveria subsessilis is known for its unusually blue leaves that are tipped with a pink or red point. The plant is characterized by its rosette growth pattern, similar to a cabbage, that is typical of the Echeveria species. The flowers are bell-shaped, and coloured pink to orange. Under optimal conditions, the plant can grow up to 20 cm tall and reach a diameter of 25 cm.
Care
The Echeveria subsessilis needs full sun to slight shade for optimal growth. Being a succulent, it tolerates dry conditions and minimal watering requirements, but overwatering should be avoided. The plant prefers well-draining soil to prevent root rot. During the colder months, the plant will be in a dormant period, requiring minimal water and no fertilization.
