Origin
The Euphorbia cooperi is a species from the Euphorbia family that originally hails from South Africa. The plant is often referred to as the 'tree Euphorbia' because of its massive tree-like size in its natural habitat. It is a perennial plant that forms part of the scrub in dry, rocky areas.
Characteristics
The Euphorbia cooperi has a wide growing structure with many branches that extend into a screen of green, cylindrical trunks. These trunks are typically pentagonal and covered with small spikes. The striking light green colour of the trunks intensifies as the plant ages. The plant rarely blooms, but when it does, the flowers are small and inconspicuous.
Care
Growing in well-drained soil is essential for the Euphorbia cooperi. It is preferable to place the plant in a sunny to partially shaded environment. Overwatering must be avoided as the plant is drought resistant and the roots can rot if kept too damp. During the winter the plant requires minimal watering and it can also withstand slight frost.
