Origin
The Echinopsis multiplex, also known as the night-blooming cereus, is a flowering succulent that originally hails from South America. This plant is particularly widespread in the dry areas of Argentina and Bolivia. However, due to its exceptional flowers and resistance to drought, it has become globally distributed and popular with gardeners.
Characteristics
The Echinopsis multiplex is characterised by an upright shape and numerous, sharp spines. The green body of the plant is made up of several cylindrical segments and the plant can grow up to about 60 cm high. The flowers, however, are the most notable feature; they open at night, are large, white, and highly aromatic.
Care
In terms of care, the Echinopsis multiplex prefers a sunny location with well-drained soil. While the plant can withstand drought, it requires regular, moderate watering during the growing season. It is important to know that this plant is sensitive to frost and should therefore be grown indoors in colder climates, or brought inside during the winter.
