The Parodia mammulosa is a plant from the cactus family that originally occurs in South America, mainly in the highlands of Paraguay and Argentina. It is an adaptive plant that has adapted to the harsh conditions of the semi-arid areas in which it grows.
Characteristics
This compact spherical cactus is characterised by its green body covered with many spikes and the prominent woolly areoles from which the spikes grow. It grows slowly and can reach a height of up to 3 meters when fully grown. The Parodia mammulosa typically blooms in late spring or early summer, it produces striking yellow flowers that are often larger than the body of the cactus itself.
Care
Caring for the Parodia mammulosa includes a well-draining soil mixture to retain and prevent excessive water, as this can lead to root rot. A spot with direct sunlight or partial shade is ideal for this cactus. Like most cactuses, it requires only a minimal amount of water, especially during the summer months, and should be almost dry in the winter.
