Origin

The Ferocactus histrix, also known as the barrel cactus, has its origin in Central America, particularly in Mexico. It thrives in desert-like environments, often under high sunlight intensity and is drought-resistant.

Characteristics
The Ferocactus histrix is a spherical cactus, which becomes more cylindrical in shape over the years. Mature specimens can reach a diameter of up to 30 centimetres and a height of 90 centimetres. The spines are marked by their bright yellow colour and sharpness, giving the plant its remarkable appearance. The flowers, which appear during the flowering season, are usually brightly red in colour.

Care
The Ferocactus histrix requires very little water, thanks to its ability to store moisture in its fleshy structure. It is best to water the plant only when the soil is completely dry, as too much water can lead to rot, which is deadly for the plant. Full sun and well-draining soil are essential for the growth and well-being of this cactus. In addition, it is important to know that the Ferocactus histrix is resistant to low temperatures, but can suffer damage at temperatures below -6 degrees Celsius.
