DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Eulychnia castanea spiralis is a rare cactus species, originally from the coastal areas of Chile. The remarkable sculptural round shape and spiral ribs of the cactus are the result of the specific living conditions in this region, namely dry, hot summers and mild, wet winters.

Characteristics
The most notable characteristic of the Eulychnia castanea spiralis is the spiral growth of the ribs around the trunk of the plant, which gives it its name. The plant is a slow-growing cactus that at adult age can reach a height of 2 to 4 meters. The flowers of the Eulychnia castanea spiralis are yellowish in colour and bloom in the summer months, but only on mature specimens.

Care
For optimal growth, the Eulychnia castanea spiralis needs a sunny to semi-shaded spot. Though this cactus is very drought-tolerant, it requires periodic watering in the growing season - in the summer, while in the winter period it should largely be kept dry. The plant needs good drainage to prevent root rot, and preferably sandy, well-draining soil.
