Origin
The Agave potatorum variegata, also known as the Butterfly Agave, is originally found in South and Central Mexico. This species predominantly grows on dry cliffs and rocky terrains at heights between 1300 to 1900 meters.
Characteristics
The Agave potatorum variegata is a compact, slow-growing plant. This particular type of agave has a rosette growth habit with broad blue-grey leaves which are known for their yellow outline. Furthermore, it has an attractive, prominently visible, sharp and dark coloured spine at the end of each leaf.
Care
The Agave potatorum variegata prefers full sun, but can also survive in semi-shade. It should be planted in well-draining soil and requires little water, therefore it is resistant to drought. However, cold and moist conditions can harm the plant, so it is recommended to keep it indoors or under cover during colder periods.
