Origin
The Pilosocereus azureus, also known as the Blue Torch Cactus, originates from Brazil. This plant is specifically from the regions of Minas Gerais and Bahia. These are areas with a subtropical climate where this cactus can optimally grow and flower.

Characteristics
The Pilosocereus azureus is characterised by its bright blue, cylindrical stems that can grow up to 4 meters high. The cactus has ribs that are coated with small, sharp spines, and in mature specimens, white or yellow flowers can bloom in the summer. The fruits of the cactus, which are red and pear-shaped, are often eaten by local animals.

Care
The Pilosocereus azureus requires moderate water, so it is important to prevent the soil from becoming waterlogged. It needs full sun to maintain the vibrant blue colour and grows best in well-draining soil. This plant is somewhat frost-resistant, but it is recommended to protect it from temperatures below -10 degrees Celsius to prevent frost damage.
