Origin
The Dracaena sanderiana, also known as Lucky Bamboo, has its origin in the tropical rainforests of West Africa. Here, the plant grows wild in the lower part of the rainforest where it receives little direct light. The local population sees it as a symbol of luck and prosperity, hence the common name 'Lucky Bamboo'. It is also popular in Feng Shui because of its strong life energy.

Characteristics
The Dracaena sanderiana is an evergreen tropical plant that is characterised by its strong, reed-like appearance. The stems are similar to bamboo, but differ from true bamboo species. They are usually tied up in a decorative shape such as a spiral or ladder structure. The leaves of the Lucky Bamboo are light green, long, and lanceolate. Although the species is technically not bamboo, it has earned the common name because of its similarity in appearance to bamboo.

Care
The care for the Dracaena sanderiana is simple and uncomplicated, making this plant ideal for both beginner and experienced plant owners. The plant cannot tolerate direct sun and prefers indirect light. The soil in which the plant grows must always be moist, but not waterlogged to prevent root rot. With respect to temperature, the Lucky Bamboo grows best in a warm environment with temperatures between 18 and 32 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the plant is quite resilient and can deal with most indoor gardening conditions.
