DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Ficus lyrata, also known as the Fiddle-leaf fig, is native to West Africa. This exotic plant is specifically found in the lowland rainforests from Cameroon to the Ivory Coast. The plant has been introduced to tropical areas around the world and is internationally appreciated as a houseplant.

Characteristics
The Ficus lyrata is known for its large, dark green leaves that strikingly resemble the shape of a fiddle, hence its nickname 'Fiddle-leaf fig'. These leaves grow in an upward direction, with each leaf able to reach a length of 30 to 50 centimetres. The plant generally grows quickly and can reach heights of two to three metres indoors. The flowering period is generally unobtrusive, and the flowers rarely appear.

Care
The Ficus lyrata requires a high level of light and thrives best at consistent, mild temperatures. Although it can tolerate some drought, it prefers high humidity and regular watering. The plant should be placed in well-draining soil to prevent root rot. During the active growth period, usually in spring and summer, the plant can benefit from regular fertilisation. Pruning is essential to maintain shape and is best done in late winter or early spring.
