Origin
The Ficus microcarpa 'Ginseng' originally comes from South Asia and Australia. The name 'Ginseng' refers to the distinct shape of the plant's roots, which somewhat resemble the Ginseng root, which is particularly well-known in China. Although the plant can grow into a large tree in the wild, it is often kept as a houseplant in temperate climates.

Characteristics
The Ficus microcarpa 'Ginseng' is characterised by its thick, twisted roots which grow beneath the trunk or above the soil. Its dark green, oval-shaped leaves are shiny and have a leathery texture. The plant can produce flowers and small, edible fruits, however these are quite rare, especially indoors. The Ficus microcarpa 'Ginseng' is also often called Banyan fig due to the aerial roots it develops.

Care
The Ficus microcarpa 'Ginseng' requires moderate to high amounts of light, although this must be indirect light. Direct sunlight can burn the leaves. The plant prefers a constant temperature without drafts. It's recommended to water the plant regularly, without making the roots drown. The plant can also be located in a moist place, but not in water. It is advised to repot the Ficus microcarpa 'Ginseng' every two years or so to promote growth.
