Bucida buceras 'Shady Lady' (450-500)
Stem
4BUBUR021
Origin
The Ficus microcarpa 'Nitida', also known as the Chinese banyan, is originally a tropical tree from Southeast Asia, but it is also common in warmer areas of the United States, such as Hawaii, Florida and Southern California. The tree is often found in the wild in forested areas, along the edge of water bodies or in humid mountain areas, and is frequently cultivated as an ornamental tree in parks and gardens.
Characteristics
The Ficus microcarpa 'Nitida' is characterised by its large, dense leaf canopy and smooth, light grey bark. The leaves are dark green, shiny, and oval in shape and can grow up to 5 centimetres in length. The tree is a fast grower and can ultimately reach a height of 15 to 20 metres. Perhaps the most unique characteristic of this tree are the aerial roots that grow from the branches down to the ground where they take root, giving the tree a large, shrub-like appearance.
Care
In caring for the Ficus microcarpa 'Nitida', it is important to place the plant in a location with sufficient light, but out of direct sunlight. The soil should be kept constantly moist, but waterlogging should be avoided to prevent root rot. The plant requires high humidity, so daily spraying is recommended in drier climates. With ideal conditions and care, the plant can remain green throughout the year. Regular pruning should be considered to control the tree's growth.
