Origin
The Ficus elastica Melany® is a variant of the well-known rubber tree and has its origin in the subtropical areas of Southeast Asia. Particularly in countries such as India, Malaysia, and Indonesia, this plant species can be found in the wild.

Characteristics
Characteristic of the Ficus elastica Melany® are its shiny, dark green leaves which take on an oval to spatulate shape. A peculiarity of this plant is that its leaves slowly change colour from a light, bright green tint to a darker colour palette. A mature Ficus elastica Melany® can achieve heights of two meters. Adult specimens have a sturdy trunk, giving the plant an exotic and robust appearance.

Care
The care of the Ficus elastica Melany® primarily involves maintaining a constant high humidity, constant warmth, and plenty of indirect light. An ideal spot is right next to a north-facing window, or an east or west-facing window. In the winter months, the plant is best kept slightly further away from the window to prevent it from getting too cold. As far as watering is concerned, it is important to keep the soil constantly moist, but excess water should be avoided. The soil should only dry out slightly between watering sessions. In the summer months, in addition to watering, the plant can also be sprayed with lime-free water.
