Origin
The Agave stricta 'Blue' originates from Mexico, where it grows in dry, rocky areas. This perennial plant belongs to the asparagus family, also known as Agavaceae. It is a durable species adapted to dry environments with little rainfall.
Characteristics
As the name suggests, the Agave stricta 'Blue' has distinctive blue-green stiff leaves. The plant is a low rosette plant, with the leaves growing in a tight spiral formation. Each leaf is thin and sharp, ending in a long dark spike. The Agave stricta 'Blue' is recognised for its strikingly branched inflorescence, in which numerous small red to orange flowers appear.
Care
The Agave stricta 'Blue' is a low-maintenance plant, meaning it is perfect for those wanting a low-maintenance plant garden. The plant performs best in full sun and needs well-drained soil to prevent root rot. Usually, this agave thrives with minimal watering, especially during the colder season, as it is drought resistant. It is also resistant to low temperatures, down to about -3.9 °C. Protection is recommended if subjected to severe frost exposure.
