DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Citrofortunella 'Calamondin Variegata' is a hybrid citrus plant, whose origin lies in Southeast Asia. The plant is the result of the cross between two types of citrus plants, namely the mandarin and the kumquat. The Citrofortunella family belongs to the family of the Rutaceae or rue family. This species is especially popular in the Philippines, where it is used for culinary and medicinal purposes.

Characteristics
The Citrofortunella 'Calamondin Variegata' has a striking appearance with variegated leaves that are green and white striped. The plant produces small, round citrus fruits that resemble mandarins and usually become between 2 and 4 centimetres large. These fruits have a sour taste and are easily recognised by their bright orange peel. The flowers of the plant are white and strongly scented.

Care
For the care of the Citrofortunella 'Calamondin Variegata', it is important that the plant is placed in a spot with sufficient light, but not in direct sunlight. The plant likes relatively high humidity and needs regular watering, allowing the potting soil to dry out in between. Nutrition in the form of specific citrus fertiliser can promote the growth and flowering of the plant. During the winter period, the plant has a rest period, during which less water is needed.
