Origin
The Crataegus Azarolus, also known as the Mediterranean hawthorn, has its origin in the regions around the Mediterranean Sea. This species is especially common in southern Europe and North Africa. Additionally, the plant can also be found in countries such as Iran and Turkey. Its range extends from Italy and Slovenia in the north to Morocco and Algeria in the south.

Characteristics
The Crataegus Azarolus is a small-flowered hawthorn. It is a deciduous shrub or small tree that reaches a maximum height of 10 metres. The leaves are shiny dark green and the white or light pink flowers appear in late spring or early summer. The fruits are yellow to orange-red, edible, and are often used in preserves and liqueurs.

Care
The Crataegus Azarolus requires little maintenance, but prefers a place in full sun and a well-drained soil. This species is hardy and can withstand temperatures down to -15 degrees Celsius. The plant does not have specific water requirements and is reasonably drought tolerant. Pruning is not necessary but can be carried out after flowering to keep the plant in shape.
