Origin
The Nandina domestica 'Gulfstream', also known as the heavenly bamboo, has its origin in East Asia. More specifically, this evergreen species is native to Japan, China, and India. Over the years, this sought-after plant has been introduced and cultivated in various parts of the world because of its aesthetic value.

Characteristics
The Nandina domestica 'Gulfstream' is a compact, bushy shrub that can reach a height of 60-90 cm. The structured leaves are characteristically layered and beautifully change colour, starting with red in the spring, shifting to green during the summer, and ending in orange and red in the autumn. The plant blooms in the late spring or early summer, producing white, star-shaped flowers followed by bright red berries.

Care
The Nandina domestica 'Gulfstream' requires little maintenance. It can be planted in both full sun and partial shade, and requires well-draining soil to thrive. Watering is only necessary during dry periods and, once established, these plants are quite drought-resistant. However, annual fertilisation is recommended for optimal growth and colour.
