Osmanthus x burkwoodii (70-80)
Product number : 5OSBUBU24Origin
The Osmanthus x burkwoodii is an artificial hybrid that originated from the crossbreeding of two species, namely Osmanthus decorus and Osmanthus delavayi. This ornamental shrub comes from the family of olive trees, the Oleaceae. Its origin can be traced back to the gardens of Burkwood and Skipwith in England, hence the name Burkwoodii.
Characteristics
The Osmanthus x burkwoodii is an evergreen shrub that grows to a height of about 2 -3 metres. It is known for its fragrant, small, white flowers that bloom in the spring. The leaf is leathery and dark green in colour with an oval shape. Additionally, the shrub has a dense growth habit, making it particularly suitable as a hedge plant.
Care
The Osmanthus x burkwoodii thrives well in full sun to partial shade and is relatively hardy in winter, although it requires some protection against severe frost. This plant prefers a well-drained, nutritious soil. Annual pruning, preferably after flowering, promotes dense growth and abundant blooming in the following season. It's important to note that the plant needs some time to recover from the pruning in the spring.
