Origin
The Prunus lusitanica 'Angustifolia', also known as the Portuguese laurel cherry, originates from Portugal and northwestern Spain. This species is part of the rose family (Rosaceae) and is mainly planted in gardens and parks all over Europe due to its aesthetic value and adaptability to different climate conditions.

Characteristics
The Prunus lusitanica 'Angustifolia' is an evergreen shrub or small tree, which can grow up to a height of 4-10 metres. This plant is distinguished by its narrow, elongated, shiny, dark green leaves. In late spring and early summer, the 'Angustifolia' produces fragrant white flowers that attract bees and butterflies. After flowering, small, blue-black berries follow that attract birds.

Care
The Prunus lusitanica 'Angustifolia' is a robust plant that requires little maintenance but demands regular pruning to maintain its shape. The plant thrives best in a sunny to semi-shaded location and in well-drained soil. It is advisable to frequently water the plant during dry periods. Although the 'Angustifolia' is tolerant of frost, a sheltered spot is recommended during harsh winters to prevent damage to the plant.
